About DTU Wind Racers
How can we harness wind energy most effectively – and turn wind power into real-world solutions?
In DTU’s Blue Dot project DTU Wind Racers, students work on developing and testing innovative solutions within wind energy. They combine theory and practice as they design, build, and optimize technologies that utilize wind in new and efficient ways.
The work is organized in multidisciplinary teams, each developing concrete solutions – including small, energy-efficient wind turbines, wind-powered cars, and floating foundations for offshore wind turbines.
Each year, DTU Wind Racers competes in three international competitions:
- International Small Wind Turbine Competition (ISWTC) – focusing on developing the most sustainable and energy-efficient wind turbine
- Racing Aeolus – where wind-powered vehicles compete on speed and optimal use of headwinds
- Floating Wind Challenge – where teams design innovative floating foundations for offshore wind turbines
The project is part of DTU’s Blue Dot initiatives, where students work hands-on with innovation and solve real-world challenges..
Who can join?
DTU Wind Racers is open to DTU students who want to work with wind energy and sustainable technology in practice.
You can participate through the course Design-build for Wind Energy Competitions..
What will you gain?
As part of DTU Wind Racers, you will work with the entire development process – from idea and design to construction and testing of finished solutions.
You will build competencies in:
- Aerodynamics, rotor aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, and control
- Construction, mechanics, and electrical design
- Fiber composites, materials, and machine elements
- Design, visualization, and simulation
You will also gain practical experience with sustainability – including material selection, resource use, and economic considerations.
