About DTU Blue Dot

At an annual ceremony, all Blue Dot participants are presented with a diploma by Dean Lars D. Christoffersen.

DTU Blue Dot consists of interdisciplinary student projects that bring together students from different semesters, programmes, and fields of study to develop sustainable engineering solutions that benefit society.

The Blue Dot projects are open to all DTU students and provide a unique opportunity to turn theory into practice and work with real engineering projects – from idea development to production and implementation.

Blue Dot projects are linked to academic components such as regular courses, project courses, or thesis projects. This means that participation awards ECTS credits and counts as part of your degree.

However, as a participant in a Blue Dot project, you should expect to commit time and effort beyond what is typically required for a standard course or project.

Participants receive a separate diploma documenting their involvement in a DTU Blue Dot project.

Blue Dot projects are largely driven by DTU students, who invest significant time and dedication into the projects.

Dean of Studies and Student Affairs Lars D. Christoffersen has the overall responsibility for DTU Blue Dot.

Why is it called 'Blue Dot'?

'Blue Dot' refers to Earth, which from space appears as a small blue dot – fragile, yet incredibly complex.

The same applies to engineering and innovation: The best solutions may seem simple at first glance, but are built on deep expertise, detailed work, and complex understanding.

That is the essence of 'Blue Dot': the ability to see the bigger picture while working closely with the details – and to turn that understanding into solutions that make a real difference for people, society, and our shared planet.
