About DTU BioBuilders

How can we use biology to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges in health, environment, and sustainability?

In DTU’s Blue Dot project DTU BioBuilders, students develop innovative solutions within synthetic biology. As DTU’s team in the international iGEM competition, students design and build biological systems – such as genetically engineered microorganisms – to address real-world challenges.

The work spans from idea and design to laboratory experiments and testing of functional solutions. Along the way, students combine biological insight with engineering methods to create solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future.

The project is part of DTU’s Blue Dot initiatives, where students work hands-on with innovation and solve real-world challenges.

Who can join?

DTU BioBuilders is open to students from across DTU who are interested in biotechnology, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

What will you gain?

You gain hands-on experience with the full development process – from idea and design to lab work and testing.

You will build competencies within:

  • Synthetic biology and molecular biology
  • Design of genetic systems
  • Laboratory methods and experimentation
  • Data analysis and bioinformatics
  • Project management and teamwork

You also gain hands-on experience with innovation in an international competition setting and work closely with both fellow students and researchers.
