Blue Dot Projects

DTU Blue Dot is the place where students work as engineers. Across semesters, curricula and fields of study, students work on an engineering assignment.

Blue Dot projects are projects that produce sustainable solutions, and they make high demands on the participants because they run alongside the ordinary teaching schedule.

Your engineering skills come into play when you participate in and Blue Dot project. You go from idea development to production and application. The theory comes into play and you develop both your technical and personal skills.

The Blue Dot projects are to the highest degree written by DTU students who assign both time and commitment into the projects.

You can work with an eco car running a full 665 km on 1 liter of fuel, synthetic biology, food and beer and an annual competition with robots.

Biobuilders team 2011

DTU Biobuilders aim to solve real life problems with synthetic biology as the main driver. The team of students is put together on a yearly basis and every year DTU Biobuilders participate in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition, which is the largest synthetic biology
competition in the world.

Robocup 2020

An annual competition where robots — constructed and programmed by students — traverse an intricate obstacle course. RoboCup also involves a Field Robot Event where robots sow, spray, and harvest a field.

Please note that DTU
RoboCup's website is in Danish.

DTU EVentures

At EVenture you get to work with eMobility and Electric Vehicles technologies.

EVenture supports DTU’s team in the student E-formula competition in Silverstone-UK, at Roskilde festival and at other competitions and
events worldwide.

SensUs

SensUs is an international competition for university students from around the world. The students combine molecular technology and IT technology and compete to
develop and design innovative biosensors.

DanSTAR

DanSTAR is a student-driven association that builds and operates bi-liquid rockets. Join DanSTAR and gain hands on experience with engineering, project- and
teamwork and building complex systems.

wind tunnel

The Wind Racer project is hands-on wind energy for students, designing and building wind turbines and wind cars for harvesting the energy from the wind.

DTU RoadRunners kører over 600 km på en liter benzin og har sat flere verdensrekorder

DTU’s ecocar Dynamo has won the European Shell Eco-marathon for energy-efficient cars several years running.

In 2019 Dynamo set a new track record of 429 km on one litre of bioethanol.

DTU Bryghus er et bæredygtigt bryghus, der fremstiller velsmagende og CO2-venlig øl.

Invent an innovative sustainable food or drink product that can be commercialized. Make physical prototypes of the product and analyze all aspects of the business case and implementation in a commercial setting.

DTU Solar Decathlon will change the image of modern homes. While many residential areas are dominated by a particular house type and radiate a particular era, we want to see more diversity. We want to see houses that fit the standards of modern society.

Why is it called 'Blue Dot'?

The name ’Blue Dot’ refers to the Earth, which—although it is huge—looks like a small blue dot when viewed from space.

While big ideas can appear simple and tangible when seen from the outside, from the inside they are often rather intricate and complex.

The name ’Blue Dot’ thus also refers to an engineer’s ability to remain focused and see the big picture while simultaneously delving into the details in order to solve problems and challenges.
